💡 Efficiency for 2025: Bringing Ease to College Applications

Hi, Reader!

Before I dive into college-related topics, I know that I have many current and former clients and subscribers who live in the L.A. area and have been impacted by the fires. Please know my heart goes out to you and your communities right now and our Texas community is actively looking for ways to help yours.

Slowly but surely, we're getting back in the swing of things here. After a month off, my son started the second semester of his collegiate sophomore year today (it seems like he’d been on break forever), and I’m looking forward to some downtime as the Class of 2025 wraps up their essays!

One of my words for these next few months is efficiency. I’ve learned there are a lot of great things I can be doing in my business to spend more time working with students and less time on administrative (but necessary) tasks.

Speaking of efficiency, that leads nicely in to something high school students can be doing right now so that when it comes time to apply to colleges, they can put their focus on essays.

And that’s writing their student resume.

For my juniors out there, now is the time to start thinking about asking for letters of recommendation, applying to summer jobs/internships, and looking ahead to completing the Common App. (Heck, even if you’re a freshman or a sophomore, it wouldn’t hurt to start documenting your activities in resume form.)

But I know that can be overwhelming. So when we were on a cruise last week, while relaxing on our balcony, I came up with a free 5-day mini email course to get you started on writing your student resume. By the end of the 5 days, you’ll have an amazing start to your resume that I promise will make completing college applications so much easier.

Hi, Reader! It was my dog’s second birthday yesterday. OK, we just made yesterday her birthday. She was turned into the shelter as a stray, so she really doesn’t have an official birthday. But we knew her general age, and sometimes she acts a fool, so April 1 seemed as good of a day as any to name it her birthday. Lucy and her dog-friendly cake! But as you can imagine, that’s not why I’m writing. Instead, I want to ease your mind about something. I’ve been spending a lot of time talking with...

Hi, Reader! One of the biggest mistakes students sometimes make in the college application process is having an unbalanced college list — either too many reach schools, not enough financial safeties, or schools that aren’t actually a great fit. (It doesn’t help that schools are always changing what they’re looking for in a student, what they’re asking of students, and how many students they’re looking to accept.) Here are some strategies for building a well-rounded list that increases both...

Hi, Reader! I know it’s not even spring break for most, but you best believe I’m already thinking ahead to summer. It’ll be here before you know it … do you know how you’re going to spend it? Colleges love to see students making the most of their summers — gaining knowledge, getting experience in fields they’re interested in, and serving their communities — but that doesn’t mean you need to spend thousands on a fancy program. Here are some smart (and sometimes free) ways to use your summer...
